History

The California Community Colleges CalWORKs Association (CCCCA) was developed as a response to the need to establish an organized effort of collaboration to secure the best interest of the CalWORKs programs across the state. Budget changes, legislative mandates, district policy, and college operations all affect how the CalWORKs office functions.

The CCCCA seeks not only to be informed of important policy decisions, but to be an active participant in introducing and reviewing policy at all levels.

With your assistance, input, and most importantly, membership, we will achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves.

The CCCCA hosted its inaugural event in Berkeley on June 25, 2004. Members welcomed Assemblywoman Loni Hancock, and heard Anita Mathur present the CLASP report. CalWORKs leaders, advocates, members, and students were there to share in this exciting inaugural event.

The CCCCA followed up with a conference at Los Angeles Valley College, “Working Together for Success” on January 18, 2005. There were 118 attendees who represented 34 community colleges from 10 counties across the state as far north as Sacramento to as far south as San Diego. State Senator Richard Alarcon, who introduced SB1639, provided an inspiring opening to the conference.
